When I asked my friends how they would describe me using one word,
I was both humbled and proud by their responses..
Brave, Kind, Compassionate, Strong, Inspiring, Beautiful.
It took me 23 years to get to the point in my life where I could believe these 6 simple words.
I was 9 years old when my mom found my first bald spot, and my life drastically changed. I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called Alopecia, and there was a very real chance that all of my hair would fall out - and that's exactly what happened.
Everyday was a struggle as I dealt with bullying from my peers, comments and stares from strangers, and the unknown of what was going to happen in the future.
I struggled growing up with substance abuse, trying everything I could to make the pain go away, before finally attempting to take my own life the first time at 16.
As I got older I began working on my self esteem, surrounding myself with supportive people, attending motivational events, and finally working on the pain of my past.
I met my husband, and together we have 2 of the most amazing boys who challenge me everyday to live the life I'm meant to.
I've turned all the negatives from my past into positives for the future, and I finally let go of the pain from the past, which enabled me to find my confidence.
It wasn't until I noticed my oldest son's bald spot that I really knew what I had to do. Sending him to school each day knowing he was being teased and torn down, was the greatest wake up call I've ever had. The day he came home from hockey crying, was the day I knew it was time to get really brave.
I now live my life out loud - speaking to women, men and kids about being different, that we are all perfect the way that we are - right now. I teach others how I was able to overcome being a bald girl in a world telling me everyday that I am not good enough. I show others what true beauty is, and how they to can find their own self confidence.
I live my life to show others with Alopecia that it's ok - I got you.
My passion in life is kindness - I believe that everything done with kindness, has the ability to help change the world.
